NEW YORK - It's a time when everyone lets us know their picks of the 10 best movies of the year (whether we want to know them or not), and here are mine, with "Cinderella Man" topping my 2005 list.

Ron Howard's film certainly deserves more attention than it received during its initial release, filled as it is with great performances (Russell Crowe, Renee Zellweger, Paul Giamatti) and a story that grabs one's attention during the first 10 minutes and never lets go. The flaw of the film, if it has one, is that title: It's appropriate only after one has seen the movie; otherwise, it sounds as if it's the kind of larky comedy in which Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant might be romping around -- which might be the reason many customers haven't exactly broken down the doors to see it.
