Russell Crowe rocks the Alexandra Hills Hotel
The Gladiator came to the Redlands on the weekend. Oscar award winning actor and part time singer Russell Crowe brought the Alexandra Hills Hotel to a standstill on Saturday night as he performed with his band Thirty Odd Foot of Grunts.
Seven hundred people packed into the upstairs nightclub from 8pm and waited anxiously until 11pm to see the Hollywood movie star belt out his first song. His gutsy mix of rock and folk-style music pleasantly surprised many in the audience, with some enquiring after the concert whether his CDs were for sale.
In between songs he talked about the Brisbane Lions' successful AFL season and joked about star midfielder Jason Akermanis falling off the stage at the premiership ticket tape ceremony in the city last week.
The Hotel's entertainment manager Jimmy Considine said Crowe ate dinner with his entourage of 20 at the restaurant before the show and partied afterwards in the green room with legendary Australian country music singer Lee Kernaghan who came especially to watch him perform.
Mr Considine said Crowe was very well mannered and unassuming, but admitted it was very difficult to get to him as he had three minders and a body guard. He requested nothing fancy except for a carton of VB and a couple of bottles of Jack Daniel's to be placed in the green room.
After the show he flew back to his farm at Coffs Harbour to begin preparing for three more shows at Sydney this week.

The Secret Millionaire, narrated by Russell Crowe, will premiere tonight.
The show marries people rich in funds to people rich in spirit, and serves to promote awareness for a number of charitable efforts.
'I think at its core the show lets people into the lives of those less fortunate than themselves. Anything that encourages people to engage in helping others has to be a good thing,' says Crowe.
